La Real Maestranza de Caballeria.

Last night I went to see some bullfighting. They are held from la Feria de Abril (April) to around mid September. Luckily I'm in Seville at the right season.

The whole thing was very intense. Fun. Shocking. Scary. Gruesome. Spectacular.

I was surprised to see little/ no tourists. 95% were Spanish and mostly wealthy. Bullfighting is for the higher class. They come with their little pillows (my bum after two hours on stone was numb), tinto de verano (red wine with lemonade and ice cubes - delicious), chorizo, sunflower seeds and crisps. It's a family/ friend thing to do. A man told me they place bets and during the whole thing everybody is chatting, eating and shouting. The atmosphere was great.

Bullfighting is all about tradition. The entrance with horses and guards in traditional costumes, the way they kill the bull. Yes, they kill the bulls. I found out a couple of hours before hand. It was just a fabulous spectacle.

There is an orchestra who plays according to what is happening. The colours were stunning. I've tried to capture it on the photographs but it was hard.

Bottom left: the two gracious horses and men (I didn't quite catch who they were) are the first to enter the arena.
Bottom right: Then the torreos arrive. Three of them kill the bulls and are the mains dudes I guess and the others are there on hand to excite  the bulls. Their costumes are stunning.
Top left: These are the donkeys and butchers (I think) that take the bull away once he's dead.
Top right: The arena, people arriving etcetc
